Scale Model

1.) A representation or copy of an object that is larger or smaller than the actual size of the object. Most often the scale model is smaller than the original and used as a guide to making the object in full size.

2.) a. Study Model/Working Models: quickly constructed to reflect the preliminary nature of the design.
     b. Presentation/Finished Models: present a finalized, fully developed design with a great deal of detail and high levels of craftsmanship.

3.) Advantages: Working Scale Model
-Elevations can moved and taped into place as needed for study and review
-Uses drawing skills as an aid in model making
-Can be dismantled and stored flat for easy transportation
    Limitations: Working Scale Model
-Does not show design details as accurately as presentation models
-Less realistic in terms of space than presentation models

4.) Advantages: Presentation Model
-Shows design details such as finishes; colors; materials; textures
-Gives a highly accurate representation of the space
    Limitations: Presentation Model
     -Costly to create
     -Time intensive
     -Requires expensive tools
-Most often created by model making teams of professionals

5.) We will be making 2 scale models of a section of our apartment:
     > One working model or our entire apartment
     > One presentation model of 2 to 3 rooms of our apartment

Bart Prince

Bart Prince is a unique architect from Albuquerque, New Mexico. From 1970 to 1972 Prince worked in Goff's Kansas City, Missouri and Tyler, Texas offices. Since then he has worked for himself winning many awards as an architect. Prince's most prosperous years began in 1985, when he won his first Record House of the Year Award, and continued up until about 2004 when he was awarded the International Excellence in Design Award. In 1965 Prince attended College of Architecture at Arizona State University, Tempe, graduating with a B.Arch. After he graduated, he spent the summer working for the Cwmbran Development Corporation on the design of New town Cwmbran, Wales. While there, Prince met Bruce Goff and began working alongside him. Then in 1972 to 1973 he worked in Albuquerque office of George Wynn. From then on, Prince recieved numerous awards including the Record House of the Year Award for the "Bart Prince Residence" in 1985, the same record but for the "Brad and June Prince Residence" in 1989, and again the Record House of the Year Award for the Joe and Etsuko Price Residence. Then in 2004, he was given the International Excellence in Design Award. His work is almost surreal. Many of his design look like homes that you would only see in movies. Prince incorporates many aspects of nature in his design with various organic shaped rooms and layouts. Three of Prince's projects that really stood out to me are his "Judy and Spence Residence" in South Pasadena, California, "Steve Skilken Residence" in Columbus, Ohio, and his "George Gradow/ Barbi Benton Residence" in Aspen, Colorado. Prince's use of organic shapes, fluidity, and futuristic designed rooms is what really inspires me. His style is very different than any other designer that i know of, which is why I like his work.

Welcome!

Welcome to David Wright's Functional Art Blog! I am a junior at Victor Senior High School and love fashion and design. This is the reason why i decided to take Functional Art during my junior year. Besides being involved with art, I also play soccer. Soccer is in my blood since I am originally from Medellin, Colombia, so I've been playing it for many years. I hope to go to college, mainly for soccer purposes, but I also plan on studying Exercise Science.

If I had to pick one interior designer to design my home it would be Bart Prince. His unique style caught my eye right away. Most, if not all, of his designs are different from any other designer, which is why I like his work. He difinitely would be hired by me to design my home.

To me, this blog is a great tool for me if I decide to pursue interior design in the future.  It is also a great way to show other people my ideas and thoughts about interior design. This blog could possibly help them figure out what they like and do not like about certain aspects of interior design. Their feedback about the things on my blog could benefit me as well.
